Boyd to speak at Chamber's Lunch & Learn

The Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee will host a 'Lunch & Learn' event on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Lebanon Golf & Country Club featuring guest speaker Randy Boyd, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.

Boyd's department is responsible for recruiting business and industry to the state as well as Tennessee's overall economic growth. In 2013, Boyd worked with Gov. Bill Haslam as special advisor on higher education to assist in the development of the Drive to 55 initiative and the Tennessee Promise, which will provide free tuition to community college to Tennesseans.

Prior to joining the department of economic and community development in January, Boyd founded Radio Systems Corporation, which produces over 4,600 pet products under brand names such as Invisible Fence, PetSafe and SportDOG. The Knoxville-based company is privately held with sales over $350 million. Since the summer of 2013, Boyd has also owned the Tennessee Smokies minor league baseball team. He serves on the boards of various companies and non-profit organizations throughout the country, ranging in interest from bio-science research to dog-walking and national park conservation to community education.

The public is invited to attend this educational luncheon. RSVP by Oct. 19 to the chamber office by calling (615) 444-5503 or e-mailing anna@lebanonwilsonchamber.com. The cost is $15 per person. The 'Lunch & Learn' is sponsored by THW Insurance.
