TN Promise needs 200 mentors

Between now and Nov. 20, almost 200 volunteers are needed throughout Wilson County to help work with students receiving free college tuition through the TN Promise scholarship program, according to Wilson County Schools Public Information Officer Jennifer Johnson.

So far, just 62 local residents have answered the call to volunteer for the program, leaving 178 open slots.

To sign up to become a volunteer, visit tennesseepromise.gov/volunteers.shtml. Once registered, volunteers are paired with a student to help guide through the process of meeting important deadlines, registering for college and answering any questions the student may have as they begin their journey as a college freshman next fall.

Being a mentor requires a time commitment of approximately one hour per month.
