Today's Cumberland vs. FHU baseball is still on

Coach Woody Hunts squad took two of three games from Southern Poly over the weekend in Marietta, Georgia, splitting Saturdays games after winning Fridays season-opener.


On Saturday, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision in nine innings, then bounced back with an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.


Evin Einhardt worked six innings without a decision in Saturdays loss, scattering seven hits and two walks. Reliever Kevin P. Greene (0-1) was tagged with the loss.


In the nightcap, Josciel Veras drove in a pair of runs as Cumberland scored five times in the top of the second. Anthony Gomez (1-0) went five innings to get the decision, allowing just one run on two hits.


On Friday, Knoxville native Kevin T. Greene (1-0) tossed six-plus effective innings while Veras and Craig Monson each collected two hits and two RBIs, as Cumberland used a six-run fifth inning to win its season-opener 6-2 over Southern Poly.
