Tracy Lawrence to headline charity concert, tournament

Those responsible for organizing the charity event, scheduled for Sunday, April 29, and Monday, April 30, say it's an opportunity to raise much more money than last year as more people will be involved.

Last year the tournament raised almost $13,000 for the charity, and this year the goal for is $30,000.

Joshua Lykins, assistant golf professional at Five Oaks and a principal organizer of Lawrence's event, said the entertainer is adamant about keeping it all local.

He said when the decision was made to expand the event from a golf tournament to a two-day fundraiser, Lawrence's first request was to keep everything local.

"We chose The Mill in Lebanon as the host site for the concert on Sunday, kept the golf tournament on Monday at Five Oaks and in keeping with everything staying local Tracy also wanted to bring in a local organization that touches cancer and helps people locally.

"This is when Tracy decided to bring in Lace Up 4 Pink of Wilson County for this year's event," Lykins said.

Lace Up 4 Pink is a local non-profit that is committed to helping people in Wilson County deal with cancer. Lawrence's fundraiser, Tracy Lawrence Golf and Concert for a Cure Charity Classic, is featured on the organization's website.

Also to benefit from the Lawrence concert and golf tournament is the nationally recognized Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

According to Lykins, much of the success of the Lawrence fundraiser is attributed to Terry Burns and Burns Insurance Group, a major contributor and presenting sponsor. Burns Insurance has offices in Mt. Juliet, Nashville and Franklin.

Among celebrities who have said at this time that they plan on playing in the golf tournament are country music artists Ira Dean, Bryan White, Clay Walker; former NBA player Ron Mercer; NFL alumnus Brent Griffith; several LPGA players; and others.

The cost to play in the golf tournament is $250 per player and each entry includes range balls, goody bag, reception and awards party, pairings party on Sunday afternoon at The Mill, VIP concert ticket, special gift from Lawrence, door prizes, and access to silent and live auctions.

The format for the golf tournament places a celebrity on each of the 25 teams that comprise a field of 125 players.

The 6 p.m. concert on Sunday will feature a number of artists including Lawrence himself, Lori Morgan, Dean, White, Walker, the band One Night Rodeo and several others. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at any Wilson Bank and Trust location or by going to

General admission tickets for the concert are priced at $20 each. Also available are VIP accommodations at $40 and $60 each.
