Friday, Nov. 14, Tressler & Associates, PLLC celebrated five years of "securing peace of mind" in Middle Tennessee. However, just over a decade ago, founder Todd Tressler was on a different path.
Tressler, a Lebanon native, said he was on track to medical school after earning his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
"The doctors and medical professionals I worked with told me not to do it because they foresaw changes in the healthcare industry," he explained. "But I still had this innate feeling that I wanted to get a higher education."
Tressler worked in the Kroger Pharmacy and as a clerk for Rochelle, McCulloch and Aulds (RMA), which made him consider law school, and applied for law school within just a few months into joining RMA.
"I liked the flexibility and I liked being in the business world," he said. On the same day he received his acceptance into the Nashville School of Law, Tressler also received a job offer from First Tennessee Home Loans. He worked as a mortgage professional during the day and attended classes at night.
"My family roots run deep in the real estate world," he said, adding that his great-great-
grandfather J.R. Hobbs began a real estate and auction company in 1909 that is still operating today. "I realized there was a legal end of real estate and there was an opportunity when someone left RMA for me to come back."
Tressler was admitted to the Tennessee Bar Association in 2008 and returned to RMA doing real estate closing work as soon was promoted as the firm's Director of Real Estate.
After five years with RMA, Tressler began contemplating opening his own law firm.
"There are a lot of jokes and stereotypes in the legal world that we fight against. The roots of the legal world began as a true public service," he said. "I wanted to create an environment where people didn't come in and dread going to work. It was a feeling of doing it better and returning to that 'old school' ideal of law."
Tressler & Associates was founded with two attorneys and has more than doubled in the past five years. As of spring 2014 they have four attorneys and 12 non-attorney team members.
His goal is to expand their services to surrounding counties, Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford by 2017. However, he stressed that Wilson County will always be their base and his home community.
"We won't lose our roots as we grow. I plan on being here and living here, but as a business owner you have to be flexible and listen to the market and evaluate opportunities - no matter the location the business to be cultivated," Tressler said.
Tressler is a former Board Member of the Lebanon/Wilson Chamber of Commerce and is passionate about charitable endeavors for young people and the military.
Tressler & Associates, PLLC, sponsored a Little League team this past year. "There are some businesses that sponsor teams and say, 'What is in it for me?' We are huge in support of local schools, and I am a softy when it comes to charitable work," he said. "I like that youth sports promote leadership and accountability."
Tressler & Associates, PLLC, is located at 212 N. Castle Heights in Lebanon. Areas of service include business law, civil litigation, real estate law, criminal litigation, general counsel, personal injury, estate planning and contract law.
