Elrod has 21 for Lady 'Cats
MT. JULIET -- Senior Piper Elrod knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Wilson Central to a 48-47 victory at rival Mt. Juliet Tuesday night.
The Lady Wildcats moved to 19-1 on the season and 6-0 in District 9-AAA while Mt. Juliet lost for the third straight outing -- falling to 12-6 / 4-3 in the district.
Mt. Juliet took a brief 47-46 lead on a 3-pointer by Tondriannha Davis with 29 seconds left in regulation.
Elrod connected on a pair of free throws with 22.1 seconds remaining to ice the game for WCHS.
Ninth grader Lindsey Freeman had 13 points for Central while Addison Byrd had 11.
Freshman post Emma Palmer led Mt. Juliet with 14 points, Davis had 13 and Aaliyah Frazier finished with nine.
Julia Maki had a pair of 3-pointers for her eight points.
Wilson Central will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 19 hosting Gallatin in a makeup game.
Mt. Juliet plays at Lebanon Friday, Jan. 20.
MJ Christian 52, Friendship 47
LEBANON -- Caroline Hibbett converted a pair of late free throws to force overtime, allowing Mt. Juliet Christian to down Friendship Christian 52-47 Tuesday night at the bay family Sportsplex.
Hibbett's charity tosses tied the score at 43-43 at the end of regulation with the Lady Saints going on to outscore their hosts 9-4 in the extra period.
Amelia Lyons led MJCA with 20 points and Marcella Gallione adding 19 Caitlyn Smith finished with five while Hibbett and Abi Hildabrand added four points apiece.
Friendships Ashley Pittman hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points while Autumn Groves had 15 and Savannah Craighead six.
MJ Christian improved to 7-8 on the season headed into a Friday, Jan. 21 home game with The King's Academy.
The Lady Commanders slipped to 6-11 and will be on the road Friday at St. Andrew's-Sewanee.
Lebanon 51, Portland 44
PORTLAND -- Lebanon High improved to 12-8 on the season and 2-4 in District 9-AAA with 51-44 win at Portland Tuesday night.
The game marked the 200th career victory for Devilette coach Cory Barrett -- now in his second season at LHS.
A pair of ninth graders paced Lebanon in scoring as Allissa Mulaski connected on four 3-pointers for her 14 points and Aaryn Grace Lester added 13.
Zyrina Neuble had seven and Caleah Shannon six points.
The Devilettes connected on 13-of-21 free throw attempts (61 percent).
LHS is scheduled to host rival Mt. Juliet Friday at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.
