Lebanon Mayor Philip Craighead proclaimed Sept. 1, 2015 Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1004 Day during Tuesday night's meeting of the Lebanon City Council.

Associates of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1004 were presented with the proclamation before council and recognized for their efforts to improve quality of life for veterans of the Vietnam War. According to Craighead, the group recently received another accolade - being named the number one AVVA Chapter in the United States at an annual national conference in Illinois. He added that over 800 clubs nationwide attended.

Craighead recognized their "thousands of service hours" and "outstanding support for veterans and their families" through fundraising initiatives and being present during funerals and parades. He also noted that they frequently visit veterans at long-term care facilities and are "very giving" of their time and services.

"We can never say 'Thank You' enough for your services overseas and at home," Craighead said.
