Wilson Central's wrestling program will play host to the annual Wildcat Duals Saturday, Jan. 11. In addition to the host team, eight other squads are scheduled to compete -- including: Beech, Stewarts Creek, LaVergne, Warren County, Cane Ridge, Lebanon, Riverdale and West Creek. Weigh-ins are at 8 a.m. All day admission is $8 per person.
‘Cats take second at Ryan Invitational
NASHVILLE -- Wilson Central competed in the 45th annual Father Ryan Invitational held Jan. 3 and 4 held at Ryan’s Catignani-Drennan Fieldhouse.
Billed as the state's oldest wrestling tournament, WCHS placed second in the 25-team field, some 27 points behind host and tournament winner Father Ryan.
WCHS senior Austin Richard reached a couple of milestones on the way to the 132-pound championship. Richard earned his 200th varsity victory and remained undefeated on the season. Junior John Michael Jenkinson, a number five seed, won the 145-pound division.
Perry Baltz brought home the 182-pound title and defeated the 2013 Arkansas state champ in the finals. Junior John Kramer was the winner in the 220-pound division.
Second place finishes went to senior Christian Cerrito (120 lbs.) and junior Mike Binns (152 lbs.).
Senior Eddie Small claimed third place at 138 and sophomore Caleb Berta was a fourth place finisher at 113-lbs.
Wildcats fall to Baylor, Ryan
Over the holiday break, Wilson Central lost dual matches to No. 1-ranked Chattanooga Baylor 38-34 and to No. 3-ranked Father Ryan 39-27.
Coach John Kramer's team presently stands 24-4 in dual meets this season and are ranked No. 4 in the latest statewide poll.
