WCHS wins Maryville tournament

Wilson Central Wildcats

MARYVILLE -- Wilson Central’s Wildcats won three lopsided games en route to the championship of the Athletic House / Russell Christmas Tournament over the weekend at Heritage High School.

Coach Troy Bond’s team, now 6-3 overall, opened the tournament with a 73-43 victory over Morristown East on Dec. 19. On Friday, the Wildcats punished Knox Halls 75-53. In Saturday’s finals, WCHS ran past Union County 83-48 for the tournament crown.

Senior Jacob Williams was named tournament MVP while teammates Jon Rosshirt, Deante Miller and Ben Palmer were named to the all-tournament team.

The Wildcats are idle until they return to District 9-AAA action Friday, Jan. 3 at Gallatin High.

MJ’s Chick-fil-A Classic
Mt. Juliet’s Golden Bears stand 6-5 on the season after splitting a pair of games in their annual Chick-fil-A Classic.

On Saturday, Coach Troy Allen’s club rallied from 11 points down at intermission to post a thrilling 49-46 victory over Hunters Lane. Reagan Johnson paced the Bears with 20 points while Daniel Schroder chipped in with 10 points.

On Friday, Brentwood High scored a 49-46 win over Mt. Juliet -- holding off a furious Mt. Juliet comeback attempt. Schroder led Mt. Juliet with 16 points, James Womack had 11 and John Mark Bell knocked down a pair of 3-pointers -- finishing with nine points. Mt. Juliet is scheduled to open play Friday, Dec. 27 in the Father Ryan Christmas Tournament.

Lady Bears top DCHS
Mt. Juliet’s Lady Bears upped their record to 8-1 with an easy 66-25 win over Dickson County Friday, Dec. 20 in the Chick-fil-A Classic.

Sally McCabe led the way with 18 points, Raeyana DeGray had 15 and Savannah Sanders 12. The Lady Bears led 19-4 after one quarter and took a 39-9 lead into intermission.

Mt. Juliet will play in the Riverdale Warrior Classic Friday, Dec. 27 vs. Memphis Central.
