West Wilson schools to take part in 'Walk to School Day'

On Thursday and Friday, students, parents and administrators from three Wilson county schools will gather before class to participate in the annual "Walk to School Day."

On Thursday, Oct. 6, groups will gather at Grace Baptist Church on Belinda Parkway, Bridge Mill at Providence Trail and the Mt. Juliet Bark Park to make the trek to Rutland Elementary School. Walkers will meet at 6:30 and begin their walk at 6:45 a.m.

On Friday, Oct. 7, students who attend Elzie Patton Elementary and Mt. Juliet Middle schools will meet at Grace United Methodist Church, Charlie Daniels Park and Woodland Place subdivision before walking to their respective schools. Elzie Patton walkers will meet at 6:15 and begin their walk at 6:30 a.m.; Mt. Juliet Middle walkers will meet no later than 7:15 and begin their walk at 7:30 a.m.

"Walk to School Day" was launched 20 years ago to promote safety on the road, educate students about environmentally friendly solutions and encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyles. To learn more about the annual observation, visit www.walkbiketoschool.org.
