WHS teams fall in tourney openers

WATERTOWN -- An early landing in the consolation bracket of your own tournament isn't exactly what the organizers of the Watertown Christmas Tournament had in mind.

Both WHS squads lost their respective tournament openers Thursday night -- falling into the consolation bracket on Friday.'

The Tigerettes struggled at the free throw line in a 57-51 loss to Class AAA Warren County -- connecting on just 10-of-22 at the stripe (45 percent). Jasmine High had 14 to lead the Tigerettes and Bay Cole added 13.

Watertown fell to 8-5 on the season while Warren County improved to 12-6. The Tigerettes are scheduled to play Trousdale County Friday at 1 p.m. while Warren County moves on the the 7 p.m. semifinals against DeKalb County.

WATERTOWN -- Boyd Christian pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 62-55 win over host Watertown Thursday in the fourth annual Watertown Christmas Tournament.

With the loss, the Purple Tigers (now 6-6) dropped to the tournament's consolation round and will face DeKalb County Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Three Watertown players broke into double figures -- Ty Jobe with 20, Seth Price with 12 and Zach Edwards with 11 points. The Tigers were 11-of-18 from the line (61 percent) and 21-of-53 (39.6 percent) from the field.
