OWNER OF THE BASEBALL CARD SHACK
LEBANON -- Gary Thomas, owner of The Baseball Card Shack, died early Monday, Sept. 27 at Lebanon's University Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer.
Thomas, 62, a retired from Nashville's Baptist Hospital as Board Certified Respiratory Therapist Practitioner, was a longtime local dealer in sports memorabelia.
"Gary really loved the kids who came into his shop," said his longtime friend Paul Saunders. "A lot of times, he'd wind up giving them a couple of cards, kind of like a bonus."
Thomas operated his shop at 1417 West Main Street for many years after relocating from East Main Street.
Mr. Thomas was a member of First Baptist Church where he spent many Sunday mornings serving as an usher.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. until funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Partlow Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Ray Cleek, Rev. Don McElroy, Rev. Tom Henry and Bro. Pierce Dodson. Interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: his mother Almedia Ogle Thomas Patton and his wife of 43 years Jo Ann Hunter Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Harold Thomas.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.
