Wilson County will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20.
Organizers urge you to show your support for keeping Tennessee clean and safe by properly disposing of your household hazardous waste.
Everyone is encouraged to participate by gathering old cleaners, oil-based paints, fuels, pesticides, automotive fluids, etc. Many of these items are flammable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic and should NOT be thrown in the garbage.
Only households are allowed to participate in the event. No explosives, radioactive materials, medical wastes, or commercial wastes will be accepted. Officials said this event is a great opportunity for you to make a difference. By safely disposing of these materials, you are protecting the environment and others from being harmed.
Small amounts of Latex paint may be dried until solid and thrown away in your regular trash. Alkaline batteries no longer contain mercury and therefore should be thrown away in the trash.
