The Middle Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts, Hermitage District, recently honored John Winchester as the recipient of the council's Good Scout Award. The award was presented at the annual Friends of Scouting Breakfast held March 9 at Victory Baptist Church.

The Good Scout Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the Spirit of the Scout Oath and Law by helping others and doing their best at all times. The award is the Middle Tennessee Council's highest honor for individual or corporate citizenship in local communities.

Winchester served two terms in the United States Air Force and pursued his master's degree at the University of Tennessee prior to going into business. He is a member of the Mt. Juliet Breakfast Rotary Club and has served on boards for the Cedar Creek Yacht Club and Cooks United Methodist Church. He is a former Scout Master and says one of his proudest accomplishments was mentoring 24 young men as they earned Eagle rank under his watch.

"Scouting was part of my being," Winchester said. "All of you make scouting what it is today. This honor is shared, not earned."
