It is no wonder that Scott and April Bowen hit it off on their first date 15 years ago.
Scott, who is Chief of the Lebanon Police Department, and April, a Licensed Senior Psychological Examiner, have dedicated their professional lives to helping others.
The couple met after April relocated to Murfreesboro from Tallahassee, Alabama in 1998. "I moved there to attend Middle Tennessee State University for graduate school. It was back in the day when AOL was new. I was new to the area and just chatting with people," she said. "We chatted online, emailed, talked on the phone and eventually met for dinner. We began dating quickly."
The Bowens married a year later.
April operates a private practice in Murfreesboro, where she works three days a week, and also works at Hendrick Counseling in Lebanon two days a week. She provides psychotherapy and psychological testing and treats children ages 4 and up and adults with individual and family counseling.
"I can't imagine doing anything else. The best part of my job is seeing people and families learn new skills and feel better," she said.
However, her biggest accomplishment in life has been raising their sons, Adam and Blake. "She is a wonderful wife and mother," Scott said. "It is very true what they say - behind every great man is a greater woman. I could not ask for anyone more supportive of me than her."
The couple will celebrate their 14th anniversary on December 15 - and welcomed a new addition to their family last year - a pocket beagle named Bullitt. "Bullitt is more a member of our family than a dog," she said.
In her free time, April enjoys being with her family and friends, traveling and doing yoga.
The woman who she most admires is her mother. "She taught me about faith, working hard, pushing through terrible times by finding the blessing in it all and loving people unconditionally."
