If you have dogs - or just love dogs - then there's a good chance you know this week's Woman of Wilson.
Houndstooth Grooming & Couture Owner Karen Caplenor has dedicated her career to caring for our four-legged friends.
Originally from Rockford, Ill., Caplenor did a six-year term in the military Air Defense in Germany. Her last year was spent in Texas, where she met and fell in love with a Wilson County native, Jere Mac Caplenor.
"We married, and he moved me to his hometown here in Lebanon," she explained.
Long before Houndstooth, Caplenor owned and operated the city's first day spa, Mojave Rock Day Spa, which she called the "flagship" for future spas in this area.
Of course, her passion has always been animals. Caplenor couldn't remember a time in her life that she's not been around furbabies. "I spent my summers at my aunt and uncle's farm," she recalled.
In November 2009, Houndstooth Grooming & Couture opened its doors.
"Our climate-controlled facility provides amenities such as dog grooming, overnight stays and doggie day care. Our customers come from Murfreesboro, Nashville, Hartsville, Carthage, Watertown and surrounding areas," she said.
Her future plans for the business are simple. "I want to continue to fulfill the need of a safe and loving harbor for my community and their pets," Caplenor continued.
When she's not working, she and her husband of 21 years enjoy hanging out with friends and family.
Their farm is also home to seven beautiful horses, six rescued dogs and three cats.
"I tell myself I am good with all the pets we have, and yet I end up carrying one more home that's been discarded," she said.
Caplenor most admires women who love God, maintain a healthy environment for their families and women who fulfill their own possibilities.
