Wootten handily retains judicial seat

John D. Wootten Jr. was re-elected as the Circuit Court Judge Division II for the 15th Judicial Circuit by a 3-1 margin over challenger Aubrey T. Givens.

According to final unofficial votes from Smith, Trousdale and Wilson counties, and partial votes from Jackson and Macon counties by press time, Wootten received 22,886 votes to Givens’ 7,913.

“First of all, I want to thank the people of not only my home county of Macon, but across this district,” Wootten said. “I got a tremendous percentage across the district. Overall, in Macon County, I got about 90 percent; Trousdale 85 percent and a great percentage in Wilson County as well.

“I’m just grateful to the people in the district, and I’m humbled by it as well. I truly look forward to the coming years and serving the people of these five years.”

Calls placed to Givens were not returned by press time.

Results from each county as of press time were as follows:

  • Jackson – Givens, 325; Wootten, 1,309
  • Macon – Givens, 464; Wooten, 3,984
  • Smith – Givens, 996; Wootten, 3,445
  • Trousdale – Givens, 334; Wootten, 1,756
  • Wilson – Givens, 5,794; Wootten, 12,392
