Cumberland University will send a six wrestlers to the 57th annual NAIA Championships Friday and Saturday in Topeka, KS.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, saw half a dozen grapplers qualify for the nationals with solid showings in last week’s NAIA East Region Qualifier.
Jake Williams (149 pounds) has posted a 32-2 overall mark this year, including 7-0 in dual matches. Williams, who hails from Rio Rancho, N.M., moved up one spot to second in the nation in this week’s rankings. He went 3-0 in the qualifier.
Zeke Hunt (174) won all three of his bouts at 174 at last week’s qualifier, is ranked fifth this week and owns a 24-9 mark this academic year. Hunt is a native of Dacula, Ga.
Kyle Delaune placed third at 174 in the qualifer and the New Orleans, La. native sports a 26-11 record this season.
Cody Linton (184) won three times in the East qualifier, and is ranked second nationally. The native of Winters, Calif., has posted a 16-3 mark this year.
Jacob Shirley at 165 (Harrison, Oh.) and Scott Stewart at 197 (Kenova, WVa.) – received national tournament bids as wild cards.
The Bulldogs have been ranked in the Top 10 nationally in each of the last five national polls.
