Wildcats finish 39-7 overall
FRANKLIN -- Wilson Central's wrestling team wrapped up an impressive dual season with a fourth place finish Saturday, Feb. 6 in the TSSAA state at the Williams County Expo Center.

With five ninth graders in the lineup, the Wildcats finished 39-7 overall, falling to Tennessee High in the third place match.

"Our young team learned what it was like to be there and what it's like with a target on their back," said WCHS head coach John Kramer. "They'll learn from it and come back stronger next year."

Wilson Central opened the 16-team tournament with a 48-25 victory over Knoxville Halls in Friday's opening round, then knocked off Tennessee High 40-27 in Friday night's quarterfinals.

In Saturday's semifinals, the Wildcats dropped a 35-29 decision to eventual state runner-up Soddy Daisy, pushing the local team into the consolation bracket.

WCHS eliminated Knoxville Gibbs 43-30, then faced Tennessee High again in the consolation finals, losing 39-33.

The region tournament for individuals will be held Feb. 12 and 13 at Clarksville Northeast with the individual state returning to the Williamson County Expo Center Feb. 18, 19 and 20.
