Former Cumberland athlete --
Former Cumberland University scholar-athlete Zack Batty has been hired as the coach of the Lebanon girls' and boys' soccer programs.

Batty, 25, is a graduate of Mt. Juliet High where he starred for the Golden Bears, earning All-District 9-AAA honors as both a junior and senior.

He went on to play at Cumberland where he was a defender and was a three-time TranSouth Conference scholar-athlete.

A mathematics major at CU, Batty has coached and officiated travel soccer since leaving college.

Batty, who will teach in the Math department at LHS, takes over for former coach Kempess Villafana.

Villafana resigned abruptly last month to take an assistant coaching position at the University of the South.
